Back in April 2025, Uniqlo announced it would be selling Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, and Gundam items again, and now we have an exact release date for some of those collections. Both the Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (SAC) shirts are showing on the US site now and return on May 12, 2025 in Japan. All shirts are unisex styles in the men’s section that cost ¥1,990/$24.90.

In the case of the Evangelion shirts, this new run marks a return of items from a 2020 collection. Two options returned, and both are basically based on the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. The first shirt is black and features Eva Proto Type-00, Test Type-01, and Production Model-02. These were piloted by Rei Ayanami, Shinji Ikari, and Asuka Shikinami Langley, respectively. The second shirt is white with Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo logo on the front and Asuka’s Eva Production Model-Unit-02’β on the back. The US site shows both variants are currently available online in sizes XXS through XL.

As for the Ghost in the Shell SAC shirts, Uniqlo focused on Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Tachikoma. As with the Evangelion designs, they are only showing in sizes XXS through XL on the US branch of the store. The white design features the Major in profile in a green outline with the quote, “If you’re dissatisfied with the world, change yourself” underneath it. The Tachikoma appears on a black shirt with the logo for the series across the top.

A new anime adaptation of The Ghost in the Shell manga will appear in 2026, and studio Science SARU will be in charge of animating it. A new key visual featuring protagonist and Public Security Section 9 agent Major Motoko Kusanagi was revealed, alongside a short teaser.

The full official Japanese name for the anime is Kokaku Kidotai: The Ghost in the Shell. Moko-chan will be in charge of directing the new show, and this will be their directorial debut after working as assistant director in Dan Da Dan, and his work on Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Additionally, the script will be written by Toh EnJoe, with Shuhei Handa working as the character designer and executive animation director, who created the key visual. The teaser trailer is a bit short of a minute long, and it features various concept art of locations and characters such as Batou and Section 9 leader Daisuke Aramaki.

The original manga creator Masamune Shirow offered a comment about the new production, in which he said the following:

"In of anime adaptations, this is the fourth Ghost in the Shell project following Oshii’s, Kamiyama’s and Kise’s. You could also consider it the 10th version if you count Ghost in the Shell (1995), Innocence, the Stand Alone Complex first and second seasons and Solid State Society, the Arise series, new movie, and first and second seasons of SAC_2045.

Considering the change in production staff, you could say it's the first work in a second generation. The original manga is old, so I ask that you understand that (my apologies.) I genuinely hope you will be able to enjoy it as a good visual work."

The Ghost in the Shell anime adaptation is currently in production and will be coming in 2026. More information on the new project will appear at a later date. Some past anime adaptations are on Crunchyroll.

Uniqlo has revealed new UT graphic T-shirts based on three major Japanese science fiction anime series: Gundam, Evangelion, and Ghost in the Shell. The apparel brand will gradually release these shirts worldwide, starting in Japan throughout the Spring season of 2025.

Gundam will have its own collection to mark the series' 45th anniversary, and Uniqlo will release it first on April 14, 2025. This lineup will feature four designs: A gathering of Gundams from multiple universes drawn by Kunio Okawara, the key art of the first Mobile Suit Gundam entry, a compilation of the Freedom Gundam's upgrade paths throughout the Gundam SEED sub-series, and the key visual of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.

In addition, Uniqlo simultaneously revealed a Science Fiction Anime collection that will group Evangelion with Ghost in the Shell in May 2025. It will feature two shirt designs from each franchise. The former will feature a group of the three main EVA units and a close-up of the Evangelion Production Model-02'β. Rounding up the lineup will be Ghost in the Shell line art designs of Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Tachikoma.

All T-shirts will have the same price tag of ¥1,990 (~$13.60). They will be available in eight adult sizes, ranging from XS to 4XL. However, Uniqlo's physical stores will only offer shirts sized between S and XL. People interested in the XS and the three largest sizes can only purchase those on Uniqlo's web store.

Uniqlo will release the Gundam series 45th anniversary T-shirts first in Japan on Monday, April 14, 2025. The SF Anime collection featuring Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell will follow suit the month after in mid-May 2025.

On May 23, 2024, Hyundai Mobility Japan unveiled a collaboration commercial featuring its new EV, the IONIQ 5 N, and the anime series Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045. The first installment, titled "Ghost in the ‘N’," is available now, and the second one will be released on June 3, 2024.

The "Ghost in the ‘N’" ad showcases the main character Motoko Kusanagi driving the IONIQ 5 N at high speed. The teaser film is supposed to show the EV integrated into the futuristic world of the anime.

The second film will feature a car chase involving Tachikoma and of Public Security Section 9, including Batou and Isshikawa. While Motoko is the driver in the first video, this is apparently not going to be the case for the second. The initial teaser will apparently reveal an unexpected driver of the IONIQ 5 Nt.

From June 3-22, 2024, a hands-on collaboration event will be held at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA in Shibuya, Tokyo. The event will be open from 10am to 8pm JST.

Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions announced a lottery sale of a special edition Ghost in the Shell whiskey. Starting from 12pm JST on May 28, 2024, fans can enter for a chance to purchase this exclusive alcohol until June 2, 2024. The whiskey is priced at ¥72,600 ($464.59 USD).

This special release features a label inspired by the iconic Ghost in the Shell series and is a Talisker 1989 single malt whiskey. Distilled in the same year the original manga by Shirō Masamune was released, this whiskey has been aged for over 33 years. Only 144 bottles have been produced, with 90 available through this lottery on the WHISKY MEW platform.

Each 700ml bottle has an alcohol content of 46.8%. The announcement noted that it should offer a distinctive tasting experience with fruity, grassy, and woody notes.

Participants must be of drinking age, and the purchase is limited to one bottle per person. Returns are not accepted, and buyers are encouraged to avoid reselling to ensure fair access to all fans..

There will be a crossover event involving Ghost in the Shell in Girls’ Frontline. The event will go live in 2024, but there isn't a launch date yet.

There is currently no information about the Ghost in the Shell event that’ll be in Girls’ Frontline. More information on it will appear on the official social media for the game closer to launch. According to the press release, both of the series focus on action in a cyber-futuristic setting, which gives both properties a lot of synergy. We can only speculate on what the event will entail. But it may have time-limited characters, such as protagonist Motoko Kusanagi, and related items.

Ghost in the Shell is a cyberpunk media franchise that first started in 1989 with the manga’s serialization. It has been a influential piece of work even in the Western world. The Wachowskis used some concepts from it in The Matrix, and James Cameron has cited it as a source of inspiration for Avatar.

As mentioned earlier, it takes place in a cyberpunk world. It follows Section 9 Chief Daisuke Aramaki and Major Motoko Kusanagi as they investigate a cyber-criminal that can hack humans with cyberbrains. The Major herself has a cyberbrain, as an accident in her childhood forced her to use a full-body prosthesis. As Girls’ Frontline also features female android characters as its protagonists, the two works do have some similarities in setting.

Girls’ Frontline is readily available on mobile devices. More information on the Ghost in the Shell event in Girls’ Frontline will come out later.

The new movie Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Saigo no Ningen will premiere in Japanese theaters on November 23, 2023. It will be a compilation film of the second season of the Netflix anime series. A trailer for the movie also debuted. This is the second compilation film in the SAC_2045 series. [Thanks, Oricon!]

The title of the movie translates to "The Last Human." Michihito Fujii is in charge of directing it, and he returns after directing the previous film. Additionally, Chief Directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki influenced the direction of the movie. Kamiyama previously worked as director on the original Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series, while Aramaki acted as the director of various Appleseed anime movies.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Sustainable War is a movie adaptation of the first season of the Netflix anime series. The film told the same story, but included additional new scenes. Sustainable War premiered in select theaters in Japan on November 12, 2021.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Saigo no Ningen premieres in Japan on November 23, 2023. The film will be available on 30 theaters throughout the country for three weeks after its release date.

A new season of Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 is in the works at Netflix, and it will premiere in May 2022. The company announced the new production with a trailer teasing the season. The teaser takes place sometime after the conclusion of the first season of Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045, which Netflix aired in 2020.

A sequel of sorts to 2010's Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, SAC 2045 takes place 15 years after the original. A massive worldwide financial default has crashed global economies and collapsed all but the largest governments. The remaining powers maintain their economies by participating in a Metal Gear-like "Sustainable War." It's a constant, unending state of military conflict managed by AIs and conducted by mercenaries and private military groups.

During this conflict, Major Motoko Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9 deal with the threat of the Posthumans, people with cyberbrains who've gained dramatically enhanced abilities far beyond those of unmodified humans and "normal" cyborgs. One potential Posthuman highlighted in the Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 teaser is Purin Ezaki, the newest member of Section 9. Another Posthuman is seen carrying out terrorist attacks in the name of an unknown entity code-named "Big Brother." Besides Motoko, characters like Section 9 member Batou, the "think-tank" Tachikomas, and Standard, a new recruit from the first season, are shown.

As with the first season, Sola Digital Arts and Production I.G. will produce Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 Season 2. I.G. produced the original Standalone Complex series, while Sola Digital Arts has produced Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki return to co-direct the new season, with character designs from artist Ilya Kuvshinov. The series' music is composed by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi, and the show's theme song is performed by Tokyo-based music collective Millennium Parade. The voice cast will also return to reprise their roles. Atsuko Tanaka once again voices the Major, while Purin Esaki is voiced by Megumi Han.

Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 streams on Netflix. Its second season premieres in May 2022. The original Standalone Complex series is also available on Netflix. In 2015 Neople and Nexon developed SAC First Assault Online, a first-person online shooter based on the Standalone Complex setting, but shut it down in 2017.

Netflix announced that season 2 of the CG anime series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will appear in 2022. Along with the announcement, a new poster showing the characters that will be returning to the series was released via social media. Like the first season, season two will also be available to watch on Netflix worldwide.

The series takes place in the Stand Alone Complex sub-continuity and follows the 2002 anime series. Like Stand Alone Complex, SAC_2045 is also produced by Production I.G, and both Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki have returned to direct the series.

Character designs for the show were provided by Ilya Kuvshinov, a Russian-born artist popular on Instagram. After moving to Japan to pursue a full-time career in anime, he is now largely known for his work on the Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 series and the coming-of-age film The Wonderland.

Season 2 of Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 will be coming to Netflix in 2022. No exact release date has been announced. The first season premiered exclusively on the streaming service in April 2020. The first season is being adapted into a compilation film set to premiere in Japan on November 12, 2021.

Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, the Ghost in the Shell Netflix series that is done entirely with CG animation, is available worldwide. Now, to help people better understand this adaptation and how it was brought to life, the company has released a brief video interview with Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, the directors of the series. In the video, the two brought up how the first talks about the potential project first began five years ago before showing parts of the creative process.

Kamiyama and Aramaki’s names may sound familiar, as both have been involved with some notable projects. Kamiyama is behind some of the most famous Ghost in the Shell media projects, as he directed and wrote Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society. He also worked on Eden of the East and Cyborg 009 projects. As for Aramaki, he’s worked as a director on Appleseed and Evangelion: Another Impact and a designer on Bubblegum Crisis and Fullmetal Alchemist projects.

Here’s the full Ghost in the Shell Netflix interview with the directors. It begins with Aramaki saying about five years ago, he began talking to Kamiyama about this possible project because he wanted to work with him. Kamiyama went on to elaborate, saying that Aramaki expressed a desire to make a CG adaptation. Aramaki then said, “We worked side-by-side nearly everyday.” The two went on about the actual project, with Aramaki saying it was inspired by Kamiyama’s Stand Alone Complex, but went on to help reflect “what’s happening in Japan now.”

In addition to Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, Kamiyama and Aramaki have recently been working on other projects together. The two collaborated on the Ultraman Netflix original net animation and are directing Blade Runner: Black Lotus’ first season.

The first season of Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 is immediately available via Netflix. It consists of 12 episodes. Ghost in the Shell Unlimited Reality has launched in Japan.

The Ghost in the Shell Netflix series is about to drop, and some new Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 looks are being shared ahead of its April 23, 2020 worldwide launch. Japan has received a new trailer, while the official Twitter offered pictures of the cast from Character Designer Ilya Kuvshinov.

First, let’s look at Kuvshinov‘s art. She created some new portraits of the main characters. Major Motoko Kusanagi, Batou, Purin Ezaki, and a Tachikoma each get their moment in these designs. While most of these characters should look familiar, Purin is making her debut in Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 as a Tachikoma handler.

The Japanese YouTube has a new trailer offering a better look at the Ghost in the Shell Netflix adaptation. As a reminder, this is a 3DCG series from Production I.G., who also worked on games like Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Persona 5, and Sola Digital Arts.

There will be 12 episodes in the first Ghost in the Shell Netflix season. In addition, a second season was brought up at the 2018 San Diego Comic Con in a Nuke the Fridge interview and has been confirmed by Anime News Network.

Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 will drop on Netflix on April 23, 2020 worldwide.

Production I.G. have shared the opening 12 minutes of the new Ghost in the Shell movie that is scheduled to premiere in Japan later this Summer. You can watch the footage from the film above.

The film begins with Section 9 handling a hostage situation at an embassy. It features the voice cast from the Ghost in the Shell: Arise series of films and will open in Japan on June 20th.

Meanwhile, Funimation have acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture, and are streaming the series in North America as it airs.

The new Ghost in the Shell animated movie that is set to premier in Japan this Summer finally has its first trailer. As always, the movie is produced by Production I.G. and will feature the voice cast from Ghost in the Shell: Arise.

The movie involves the assassination of the prime minister, following which his son and aide collaborates with Public Security Section 9 to solve the mystery of his murder. The script has been written by Tow Ubukata, who worked on Arise.

The new Ghost in the Shell movie will open in Japanese theatres on June 20th.

During a press junket for Avengers: Age of Ultron, actress Scarlett Johansson shared that the live-action Ghost in the Shell film is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2016.

“It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know,” Johansson, who is playing the lead role in the film, said to Collidor.

Sanders, who Johansson refers to in her quote, will be directing Ghost in the Shell. Sanders doesn’t have much to his name yet, outside of the Snow White and the Huntsman movie, which was his first feature film.

Dreamworks are in charge of producing the Ghost in the Shell movie. Disney, who are handling marketing for the film, recently announced that they aim to launch the film on April 14th, 2017.

Production I.G.’s next Ghost in the Shell movie is scheduled to premiere in Japan on June 20th, and today, it received a teaser trailer that goes over footage from the past films and also shows off a bit of footage from the new one as well.

The new Ghost in the Shell movie is being directed by Kazuya Nomura, the director of the Robotics;Notes anime, based on a screenplay by Tow Ubukata (Ghost in the Shell: Arise). It appears to be a follow-up to the Ghost in the Shell: Arise films.

Prior to the new film, the four Ghost in the Shell: Arise OVAs will be broadcast on Japanese television with additional footage, starting April 5th.
