Nintendo Switch Successor Will Be Backwards Compatible

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the successor to the Nintendo Switch console will be backwards compatible. Additionally, the yet unnamed successor will the Nintendo Switch Online service and features.

The announcement of the Nintendo Switch successor being backwards compatible happened as part of Nintendo’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing for the Fiscal Year Ending March 2025. Furthermore, the briefing revealed that customers will be able to purchase Nintendo Switch games on its successor.

Nintendo gave no details on how the backwards compatibility function will work on the successor to the Switch, and there was no direct mention of physical or digital copies of games owned by s. Nintendo confirmed that more details about the console’s backwards compatibility will appear in the future.

Considering the recent announcement of major first part Nintendo Switch titles coming out on 2025, such as Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for March of next year, it makes sense for Nintendo to show an interest in those games and other titles in the Switch catalogue to be playable on the Switch successor.

The Nintendo Switch is readily available worldwide, and the successor to the Switch will be announce before the end of March 2025.
